World Tuberculosis Day 2026 Awareness Program

World Tuberculosis Day is observed annually on 24th March to raise awareness about tuberculosis (TB) and to strengthen efforts toward its elimination. The theme for World TB Day 2026 was “Yes! We Can End TB”, emphasizing collective action, early detection, and community participation in eliminating Tuberculosis. Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBN University organized an Awareness Program in Taluka Hospital, Aland on 24/03/2026, in UHTC and RHTC field practice area on 25/03/2026.
Program was organized with the following objectives To create awareness about TB symptoms, transmission, prevention, and treatment, To promote early diagnosis and treatment adherence, To reduce stigma and misconceptions associated with TB, To disseminate information regarding National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), To encourage community participation in achieving TB-free India
Conducted interactive sessions on Causes of TB (Mycobacterium tuberculosis), Signs & symptoms: persistent cough, fever, weight loss, night sweats, Modes of transmission (airborne spread), Importance of early diagnosis and complete treatment
Awareness Talks Aland Taluka Hospital): Short talks delivered in OPD waiting areas with emphasis on Free diagnosis and treatment under NTEP, Availability of sputum examination and CB-NAAT testing and Nutritional support schemes.
Community Outreach Activities (UHTC & RHTC Field Practice Areas)- Door-to-door awareness campaigns, Identification of presumptive TB cases, Referral to nearest health facility for testing
Conclusion
The World Tuberculosis Day 2026 awareness programme was successfully conducted across UHTC, RHTC field practice areas, and Aland Taluka Hospital. The activities significantly contributed to improving awareness, early identification, and community engagement in TB control.
Sustained efforts, community participation, and strengthening of primary healthcare services are essential to achieve the goal of TB elimination in India under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme.
