To mark World Hepatitis Day, which is globally observed on 28th July each year, the Department of General Medicine at Khaja Bandanawaz University organized a focused awareness session on 30th July 2025. The event was aimed at educating students, medical professionals, and the community about the growing impact of viral hepatitis and the urgency of preventive healthcare.
The session began with a warm welcome by Dr. Sunil Reddy, followed by a keynote address from Dr. P.S. Shankar, who emphasized the university's commitment to raising awareness on pressing health issues. Dr. Siddaling Chengty discussed the clinical burden of liver complications caused by undiagnosed hepatitis, while Dr. Siddarth Kanta delivered a comprehensive lecture on types of hepatitis viruses, their modes of transmission, liver pathology, preventive measures, and the latest treatment protocols.
Participants learned that viral hepatitis can silently damage the liver over time, leading to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Preventing exposure through vaccination, safe medical practices, and regular screenings was highlighted as a critical public health strategy.
The event concluded with the felicitation of speakers and a collective reaffirmation of the university’s dedication to community-oriented healthcare education.
The program was attended by faculty members, students, and staff from the medical college, reinforcing KBN University's mission of excellence in education, research, and healthcare advocacy.
