World Breastfeeding Week 2025 was observed at Khaja Bandanawaz University from 1st to 7th August 2025, organized by the Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medical Sciences, in association with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Kalaburagi Branch. The celebration was held under the global theme “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support System”, emphasizing the slogan “Invest in Breastfeeding, Invest in Future.”
The program began with a special awareness session for mothers in the Postnatal Ward of KBNT&GH, where practical demonstrations on breastfeeding techniques, nutrition, and overcoming common challenges were delivered. More than 50 mothers participated and benefitted from this interactive drive. On 5th August, a poster painting competition was organized at the Pediatrics OPD Corridor, allowing students to creatively express the importance of breastfeeding. This was followed by an Undergraduate Quiz on 6th August at the New Lecture Hall, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 70 students.
Distinguished dignitaries graced the event, including Dr. Siddhaling Chengty, Medical Superintendent KBNT&GH & Professor of Pediatrics, Dr. Revanasiddappa, President IAP Kalaburagi, Dr. Dinkar More, Senior Pediatrician, and Dr. Veerbhadrappa, Former KMC President and NMC Advisory Committee Member. Their insightful messages highlighted breastfeeding as nature’s perfect design, essential for child health, immunity, and lifelong well-being.
Faculty members from the Departments of Pediatrics and OBG, along with student volunteers, played a vital role in organizing and facilitating the sessions, competitions, and judging panels. Prizes were awarded to winners of both the painting and quiz competitions, further encouraging student engagement.
The week-long celebration successfully raised awareness among mothers, healthcare providers, and the community, reinforcing KBNU’s mission to build a sustainable support system for breastfeeding. By investing in breastfeeding, the University reaffirmed its commitment to shaping a healthier, stronger, and more resilient generation.
