World AIDS Day 2025: Department of Dermatology, KBNTGH

On 05th December 2025, the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBNU, organized an academic observance of “World AIDS Day” 2025 at the Department of Dermatology, KBNTGH, with the objective of enhancing awareness on HIV infection, early diagnosis and stigma-free care.
The program commenced with a cordial welcome address by Dr. Safura, who set the tone by underscoring the need for continuous sensitization of healthcare professionals towards people living with HIV. This was followed by an introductory note by Dr. Darshan, who elaborated on the significance of World AIDS Day and the global theme, emphasizing solidarity, prevention and compassionate care.
The dignitaries present on the occasion included Dr. Guruprasad K.Y, Dean, FOMS; Dr. P.S. Shankar, Senior CEO, KBNTGH; and Dr. Siddaling Chengty, Medical Superintendent, KBNTGH. In their addresses, they highlighted the critical importance of early diagnosis, regular screening, adherence to treatment, and the creation of a stigma-free, supportive healthcare environment. They also stressed the ethical responsibility of medical professionals to lead community awareness and patient-centric care initiatives.
A special scientific talk was delivered by Dr. Murugesh Pastapur, Senior Physician and HIV Specialist, on the topic “Window Period in HIV Infection”. He explained the concept of the window period, its impact on diagnostic accuracy, and the need for appropriate timing and choice of tests. He also discussed clinical relevance, diagnostic challenges, counselling strategies and preventive measures, enabling participants to better understand the nuances of HIV testing and patient guidance.
The event was well attended by 45 participants, including 10 faculty members, 20 students and 15 external/public attendees, reflecting strong engagement and interest. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mohammed Waseem Javed, In-charge HOD, Department of Dermatology, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, resource person, faculty, students and participants for their active involvement and support.
The observance of World AIDS Day 2025 at KBNU reinforced the institution’s commitment to advancing evidence-based medical education, promoting public health awareness and nurturing a compassionate, inclusive approach to patient care.
