KBN University, Kalaburagi: On the occasion of World Leprosy Day 2024, the Department of Dermatology in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine at KBN University organized a spirited walkathon. The event took place on 30th January 2024, commencing at 10 a.m., with participants walking from KBN Hospital to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk. The event was officially flagged off by Dean Dr. Siddesh and Medical Superintendent Dr. Siddaling, symbolizing a united stride towards raising awareness about leprosy in the community.
Distinguished figures present included IQAC Director - Dr. M A Baseer, Dean -Dr. Siddesh, Sirwar, Medical Superintendent - Dr. Siddaling C, Administrator - Dr. Radhika, Senior CEO Dr. P S Shankar, HOD of the Department of Dermatology Dr. Guruprasad KY, along with their respective staff. The HOD of the Department of Community Medicine and staff members from various other departments, as well as post-graduates, interns, and approximately 100 students, also actively participated in the walkathon.
The route was adorned with impactful play cards, and pamphlets were distributed to the local community, emphasizing the importance of leprosy awareness. Dr. M A Baseer, IQAC Director, highlighted the significance of the event, while Dr. Guruprasad KY, HOD Dept of Dermatology, and Dr. Samad, Senior Resident, delivered messages in Kannada and Hindi, respectively, amplifying leprosy awareness and also with vision of eradicating leprosy from India by-2030 with the combined efforts from all the stakeholders. Administrator Dr. Radhika delivered a short talk, setting the tone for the walkathon.
This collaborative effort brought together key stakeholders from the medical community, faculty, and students, reflecting KBN University's commitment to public health initiatives and community engagement.
