The National Seminar on Contemporary Advances in Biological Sciences (CABS–2026) was successfully organized on 10thApril 2026 by the Departments of Botany and Biotechnology, Faculty of Sciences, Khaja Bandanawaz University, Kalaburagi, Karnataka. The seminar was conceived as an interdisciplinary academic platform aimed at bringing together scholars, researchers, industry experts and students to deliberate on recent developments in biological sciences, including molecular biology, zoology, mycology and industrial biotechnology.

The event commenced with the registration of participants from 9:45 AM to 10:15 AM, followed by the first technical session. The inaugural technical lecture was delivered by Dr. Amit Hegde, Senior Research Scientist at the Centre for Wildlife Studies, Mysore, on the topic “An Amphibian’s Guide to the World.” His presentation provided valuable insights into amphibian diversity, ecological significance and conservation challenges. This session was followed by an interactive discussion, allowing participants to engage directly with the speaker and deepen their understanding.

The Inaugural Ceremony (11:30 AM – 12:15 PM) marked the formal commencement of the seminar. The program began with a welcome address, followed by the ceremonial watering of a plant symbolizing growth and knowledge. Distinguished dignitaries, including the Chief Guest and university officials, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary research and innovation in biological sciences. The ceremony also highlighted the objectives of the seminar, which focused on promoting academic collaboration and advancing scientific knowledge.

Following a short tea break, the second technical session was conducted from 12:30 PM to 1:15 PM, featuring Dr.Kumarswamy H. M., Professor at Kuvempu University. His lecture on “The Phytochemical Approach: Decoding Mechanisms to Reverse Cancer Drug Resistance” explored the role of plant-based compounds in modern therapeutic strategies. The session underscored the significance of integrating traditional knowledge with advanced molecular research to address critical health challenges. An interactive session followed, encouraging scholarly discussion and exchange of ideas.

After the lunch break, the seminar resumed with the third technical session from 2:15 PM to 3:00 PM, delivered by Dr. M. Kumar, Assistant Professor at Madras Christian College, Chennai. His talk, “From Past to Future: The Biodiversity and Sustainable Power of Fungi,”highlighted the ecological and industrial importance of fungi, emphasizing their role in sustainability and environmental management. Participants gained insights into fungal biodiversity and its applications in various sectors. The fourth and final technical session was held from 3:15 PM to 4:00 PM, featuring Dr. Siva DeepthiSeelam, Senior Executive at Bharat Biotech International Limited, Hyderabad. Her lecture on “Vaccine Technology and Bioprocessing: An Overview of Manufacturing Platforms” provided a comprehensive overview of modern vaccine production processes and industrial biotechnology. The session effectively bridged academic research and industry practices, offering participants a practical perspective on biotechnological advancements.

Each technical session was followed by interactive discussions, fostering active participation and intellectual exchange among attendees. Rapporteurs documented the proceedings, ensuring systematic recording of key insights and discussions throughout the seminar.

The seminar also featured a Best Scientific Writing Award Competition for undergraduate and postgraduate students, encouraging scientific communication and research-oriented thinking. Participants submitted articles on themes related to molecular biology, zoology, mycology and industrial biotechnology, promoting academic excellence and innovation.

The Valedictory Ceremony (4:30 PM – 5:15 PM) marked the conclusion of the seminar. The session included a welcome address, presentation of the seminar report and felicitation of invited speakers and award winners. Certificates were distributed to participants, recognizing their active involvement. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all contributors, organizers and participants for their support and engagement. A high tea session followed, providing an opportunity for informal interaction and networking. CABS–2026 was a well-structured and intellectually enriching event that successfully achieved its objective of promoting interdisciplinary learning, research collaboration and scientific innovation in the field of biological sciences.
