The Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBNU, organised a Special Lecture on Women’s Health Issues at Bi Bi Raza Girls PU College, Kalaburagi, on 18th September 2025. The programme aimed to raise awareness on critical health concerns affecting adolescent and young women, empowering them with knowledge to make informed choices about their physical, mental, and reproductive well-being.
The event began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, followed by a warm welcome by the Principal, Prof. Meenakshi Patil, who stressed the importance of such sessions for young women. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. M A Fahim, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, KBNU, who underlined the faculty’s commitment to community outreach and health education.
The central lecture was delivered by Dr. Soumya, a postgraduate student, under the guidance of Prof. Shahanaz Shaheen (Professor & i/c HOD, Community Medicine). The session covered vital topics such as menstrual hygiene, nutrition for adolescents, reproductive health and safe practices, sexually transmitted diseases, screening for breast and cervical cancer, mental health, and personal hygiene.
An interactive Q&A session followed, where students engaged with curiosity and openness, raising questions on issues like irregular periods, acne, hair fall, anemia, and emotional well-being. A total of 126 participants (120 students and 6 faculty) attended the session, making it a highly impactful programme.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many participants noting that this was their first opportunity to discuss such health concerns in a scientific and open environment. The college authorities expressed appreciation and requested further sessions, including screening and preventive health initiatives.
Through this initiative, KBNU once again reinforced its mission of spreading health awareness, promoting preventive care, and empowering communities with knowledge that leads to healthier futures.
