Special Lecture on the “Depiction of labors and workers in Urdu literature”

“Depiction of Workers/ Labour in Urdu Literature” was organized by The Department of Urdu Khaja Bandanawaz University, Kalaburagi. The three days programs on Hybrid mode on the theme on the occasion of Labour Day. Experts from different academic fields participated in these programs. Writing and speech competitions were also held; approximately 40 students were participated from different departments. Prizes were given to students from different departments of KBNU, and also several workers were honored. The programs were supervised by Professor Nishat Arif Husaini, Dean of the Faculty of Languages, Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Law.
In the online session, Professor Safdar Imam Quadri (Patliputra University, Patna) spoke about the workers’ movement and its reflection in Urdu literature. He explained that workers in Urdu literature are not just characters, but also important intellectual and symbolic figures. Professor Sajjad Hussain (MU, Chennai), in his presidential address, summarized the discussion and highlighted the social responsibilities of literature. He said that university departments should focus not only on teaching but also on other academic and social activities. More than five dozen people participated in this online program across the country.
In the offline session, the same theme was discussed from different perspectives. The chief guest, Professor Ghaus Ahmad Nabi Lal Sheikh, SSA Arts and Com. College (Sholapur, M.S), delivered a detailed lecture with references to writers like Allama Iqbal, Premchand, Sahir Ludhianvi, and Ali Sardar Jafri. He discussed the life, social conditions, and problems of workers. Dr. Praveen Naik Head Department of Law, (KBNU) spoke about worker’s issues and rights from a legal point of view and stressed the importance of legal awareness. Dr. Azmat D. B.Department of Sociology, (KBNU) explained the social position of workers and changing conditions from a sociological perspective.
The concluding remarks were presented by Dr. Abdus Samad, Head of the Department of Urdu. The programs were anchored by Assistant Professors Dr. Atiullah, Dr. Athar Muizuddin, and Muzalfa Zainab (M.A. Second Sem) online and offline respectively. The vote of thanks was given by Mufti Ali Basha (research scholar) and Assistant Professor Dr. Shahbaz Arshad. Invocation was done by Hafiz Mohsin research scholar and Maryam Sultana (M. A. fourth sem).Teachers of the Urdu Department, including Visiting Professor Abdul Hameed Akbar, faculties Dr. Maimoona Begum Sardagi, and Dr. Rayeesa Nasreen, were also present. Along with participants from KBN University and other Universities from India, teachers, students, and staff members from different universities across the country attended the programs.
