The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Sciences, Khaja Bandanawaz University, hosted a one-day special lecture titled “A Walk Through Combinatorics: Graph Theory” on 16th July 2022. The event took place at the Seminar Hall in the Old PG Building and brought together students and faculty for an enriching academic engagement.

The session commenced with an invocation by Fouzia Gazala, M.Sc. II Semester, followed by a warm and articulate introduction of the guest speaker by Afifa Nasreen, M.Sc. III Semester. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Megha Khandelwal, Assistant Professor at the Central University of Karnataka, Kadaganchi, whose insights offered a fascinating exploration of graph theory through the lens of combinatorics.

In her address, Dr. Khandelwal introduced the foundational and advanced concepts of Graph Theory, emphasizing its broad applications in Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. She guided students on how to leverage these concepts for academic research, discussed the relevance of academic publications, and spoke about competitive exam preparation. Highlighting research areas such as fluid mechanics and graph theory, she encouraged students to delve deeper into their fields of interest and pursue careers in mathematics and allied disciplines.

The lecture was not just informative but also interactive. Dr. Khandelwal ensured active student participation through questions, discussions, and thought-provoking prompts, making the session lively and engaging. Her emphasis on perseverance, clarity of goals, and academic discipline deeply resonated with the audience.

The event was presided over by Prof. Nishat Arif Hussaini, Dean, Faculty of Science, while the organizing team included Dr. Sana Aejaz, Dr. Seema Jabeen, and Ms. Farheen Kausar. A special felicitation ceremony followed the session, where Dr. Sana Aejaz honored the guest speaker for her valuable contribution.

With more than 50 students in attendance, the event saw enthusiastic participation and meaningful takeaways. Students left the hall inspired to explore combinatorics further, with a renewed interest in research and academic growth. The Department of Mathematics reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a research-oriented learning environment aligned with KBNU’s academic vision.
