"On July 8, 2024, Sensitization Program on Self directed learning (SDL) and Alignment Integration to the Teaching objective(AITO) of CBME Curriculum – Faculty development Program at Anatomy lecture hall, FOMS and first floor lecture hall, KBNTGH.
The program aimed to sensitize faculty members about SDL and AITO, which are newer concepts in the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum recommended by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Two separate sessions were conducted on the same day:
i. One session for college faculty at 11:00 AM.
ii. Another session for hospital faculty at 4:30 PM (held at KBNTGH).
Dr. Zeenath Begum, Professor from the Department of Pathology, served as the resource faculty.
Key Points:
Self-Directed Learning (SDL):
i. Definition: SDL involves individuals taking initiative to diagnose their learning needs, set goals, identify resources, choose learning strategies, and evaluate outcomes.
ii. Benefits: Motivates students, enhances social and collaborative skills, and fosters responsibility.
iii. Implementation: Faculty were encouraged to incorporate SDL into the timetable.
iv. Feedback: A questionnaire for SDL feedback and evaluation was shared.
Alignment and Integration to Teaching Objectives (AITO):
i. Alignment: Recommends teaching related topics from different subjects within the same phase.
ii. Integration: Helps learners perceive relationships across knowledge blocks.
iii. AITO Types: Correlation, nesting, and sharing.
iv. Importance: Temporal and vertical alignment of objectives was emphasized.
