Seminar on “Mental Health: Thriving Not Just Surviving – Managing Stress, Anxiety & Burnout”

Venue: Forensic Medicine Lecture Hall, KBN University Campus

Date: 31st October 2025 | Time: 11:00 AM – 01:00 PM

To observe World Mental Health Day 2025, the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBN University, organized a seminar titled “Mental Health: Thriving Not Just Surviving – Managing Stress, Anxiety & Burnout” exclusively for MBBS Phase III Part I students. The objective was to raise awareness and provide practical guidance on managing the mental health challenges that often accompany rigorous medical education.

The event was anchored by Dr. Soumya (Postgraduate Student) and inaugurated by Dr. Shahnaz Shaheen (Professor & I/C HOD), who emphasized the importance of holistic health in shaping compassionate and competent doctors.

The first session, conducted by Dr. Supriya Yedve (Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry), highlighted common triggers of stress and anxiety among medical students — such as academic pressure, lack of sleep, and emotional fatigue — and discussed ways to recognize early symptoms.

The second session, led by Miss Rabia Ali (Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences), focused on resilience building, mindfulness, and time management. She encouraged students to adopt relaxation techniques, maintain hobbies, and seek peer or mentor support as part of their mental health toolkit.

An open Q&A session provided a safe platform for students to voice their concerns, helping reduce the stigma around discussing mental health in the medical community. The seminar concluded with felicitation of the resource persons and a vote of thanks, followed by refreshments for the faculty and participants.

With 159 attendees, including 137 MBBS students, interns, and faculty, the program successfully fostered awareness and offered actionable strategies to nurture emotional resilience. The event reaffirmed KBN University’s commitment to promoting student well-being and creating a supportive academic environment.
