In commemoration of World ORS Day, the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBN University, held a comprehensive School Health Camp and Awareness Program on 29th July 2025 at Hilal-E-Deccan Urdu Higher Primary School, Qamar Colony. The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Guruprasad K Y, Dean, FOMS, with the goal of enhancing community health literacy and early screening among schoolchildren.
A team of expert doctors from the departments of Pediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, OBG, and Dentistry at KBNTGH facilitated free medical check-ups for students. These included general health assessments, vision screening, dental check-ups, and BMI evaluations. This initiative aimed to identify early signs of health issues and reinforce the importance of preventive care from a young age.
A dynamic awareness session followed, focusing on the causes and dangers of dehydration due to diarrhea. MBBS interns from Community Medicine engaged the students through interactive presentations, vivid charts, and live demonstrations on the preparation and use of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS). The session emphasized ORS as a simple yet life-saving remedy for dehydration. A dedicated segment on hand hygiene was also conducted to educate children on correct hand-washing techniques.
The program concluded with the distribution of ORS sachets, awareness leaflets, and hygiene posters to both students and teachers. Faculty members encouraged the participants to share this essential knowledge with their families and communities, empowering them to combat preventable illnesses through education and basic health practices.
With over 150 participants, the event successfully combined service and awareness, fulfilling KBNU’s commitment to public health and community outreach.
