The Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Khaja Bandanawaz University, organized a full-day “Quick Review of Neonatal Practices (QRNP) – Hands-on Workshop” on 30 November 2025 in collaboration with the National Neonatology Forum (NNF), Karnataka Chapter, at KBNTGH, Kalaburagi. The workshop was designed to bridge the gap between theory and bedside neonatal care, with a special focus on the management of sick and high-risk newborns.
The inaugural session was graced by Prof. Syed Ashfaq Ahmed, Pro Vice Chancellor, KBN University, as Chief Guest, along with Dr. Mohammed Abdul Baseer, Controller of Examinations (I/C) & Director IQAC, Dr. Guruprasad K.Y, Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences, and Dr. Siddaling Chengty, Medical Superintendent, KBNTGH. Prof. Dr. Charanraj Honnalli, Professor & Head, Department of Paediatrics, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the objectives of the workshop. Felicitations were offered to the dignitaries and resource faculty in recognition of their contributions to neonatal care and academics.
The technical sessions were conducted as multiple small-group skill stations, including neonatal resuscitation (NRP), golden hour management, invasive and non-invasive procedures, respiratory distress management with CPAP and HHHFNC, surfactant therapy and LISA, neonatal monitoring, and screening for critical congenital heart disease. Each station was facilitated by experienced resource faculty, ensuring close supervision, individualized guidance and active hands-on participation. Approximately 40 delegates, comprising pediatric postgraduates, interns and practicing pediatricians, rotated through all stations, gaining practical exposure to standardized protocols.
The interactive format, emphasis on evidence-based guidelines and real-world simulation significantly enhanced the clinical confidence of participants. The workshop also trengthened the academic profile of Khaja Bandanawaz University through its collaboration with a national professional body, the NNF Karnataka Chapter, and reaffirmed KBNU’s commitment to improving neonatal outcomes through skilled, compassionate and protocol-driven newborn care.
