On 14 November 2025, the Department of Food and Nutrition organized a one-day academic visit to Gulbarga University for 42 M.Sc. students of the 1st and 3rd semesters. The objective of the visit was to provide exposure to advanced scientific laboratories, analytical instruments and research facilities relevant to food and biological sciences. Faculty members Mrs. Priyanka Bakshi (Coordinator), Dr. Jyothi Hiremath and Dr. Vinod Kumar Patil accompanied the students.
The delegation was welcomed by faculty from the Departments of Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Microbiology, who guided the students through various research laboratories. Students were introduced to key instruments including HPLC, LC–MS, GC, fermentors, lyophilizers, UV–Visible spectrophotometers, ultracentrifuges, laminar flow units and advanced microscopes. Faculty experts explained the principles, applications and research relevance of each instrument, helping students bridge classroom concepts with real laboratory practice.
The group also visited the Central Library of Gulbarga University, where University Librarian Dr. Suresh Jange briefed them about available academic resources such as journals, theses, reference books and e-learning platforms. He encouraged students to utilize these resources for project work, research activities and wider academic enrichment.
The visit significantly strengthened students’ understanding of instrumentation-based analysis, research workflows and interdisciplinary applications in the field of food and nutrition. Students expressed that the exposure improved their confidence and motivated them toward research-oriented learning.
The Department of Food and Nutrition thanks Prof. Ramesh Londonkar, Prof. Chandrakant Kelmani, Prof. M. B. Sulochana, Dr. Anand Nayak and the staff of Gulbarga University for their support and hospitality.
