NEO-SIM – Advanced Neonatal Simulation Workshop

The NEO-SIM – Advanced Neonatal Simulation Workshop was organized on 01st February 2026 as a full-day academic training programme conducted from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The inaugural session was held at the Lecture Hall (3rd Floor), Khaja Bandanawaz Teaching & General Hospital (KBNTGH), followed by hands-on simulation sessions conducted in the Department of Pediatrics and other clinical areas of KBNTGH, Kalaburagi.


The workshop was organized by the Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Khaja Bandanawaz University, Kalaburagi, in collaboration with the National Neonatology Forum (NNF), Karnataka Chapter. The primary objective of the programme was to strengthen the practical skills of healthcare professionals in neonatal resuscitation, stabilization, emergency decision-making, crisis resource management, teamwork, communication, and understanding human factors in neonatal care using advanced high-fidelity neonatal simulation models.


The event was graced by several distinguished dignitaries including Prof. Ali Raza Moosvi, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Khaja Bandanawaz University, and Prof. Syed Ashfaq Ahmed, Pro Vice Chancellor. Other eminent guests included Dr. Guruprasad K.Y., Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Dr. Siddaling Chengty, Medical Superintendent of KBNTGH, Dr. Zama Moosvi, Dean (Academics), Dr. Abdul Baseer, Controller of Examinations (I/C) and Director IQAC, Dr. P.S. Shankar, Senior CEO of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, and Dr. Kishore Kumar, President of the National Neonatology Forum, Karnataka Chapter.


The organizing committee played a key role in successfully conducting the workshop. Dr. Vinod Uplaonkar, Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatrics, served as the Organizing Secretary, while Dr. Charanraj Honnalli acted as the Organizing Chairman. The responsibilities of Treasurer were managed by Dr. Arunkumar T and Dr. Bapurao S. Kanthi. The Scientific Committee consisted of Dr. Anuroop Shah, Dr. Kedarnath G.T., Dr. Sunil Revankar, and Dr. Nasreen Banu, while Dr. Abdul Azeem, Dr. Bapurao Kanthi, and Dr. Nasreen Banu handled the Reception and Registration of participants.


The workshop featured an experienced team of resource faculty, including Dr. Praveen Venkatagiri, Dr. Shivashankar Diggikar, Dr. Vimal Kumar, Dr. Lathiesh Kumar Kambam, Dr. Nayana Singhekar, Dr. Prathik B.H., Dr. Ankur Rajvanshi, and Dr. Srikanth Kulkarni. These experts conducted interactive sessions and guided participants through simulation-based neonatal emergency scenarios.


A total of 48 participants, which was the maximum capacity for the workshop, attended the programme. The participants included pediatric postgraduate students, practicing pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals who actively took part in the training sessions.


The workshop featured several key highlights such as high-fidelity neonatal simulation training, crisis resource management workshops, structured simulation sessions (Sim1–Sim4), and discussions on human factors in neonatal emergencies. Participants also received 2 KMC Credit Points for attending the programme.

 

Overall, the workshop significantly enhanced the clinical competence of participants, promoted simulation-based neonatal training, and strengthened teamwork and communication in emergency neonatal care. The event also contributed to improving the academic visibility and professional collaborations of Khaja Bandanawaz University, particularly through its association with a national professional body like the National Neonatology Forum.
