The Department of Community Medicine, KBN University, observed World Diabetes Day by conducting an NCD screening and health education programme in the adopted villages of Tawergera and Azadpur. Led by Dr. Shahnaz Shaheen and Dr. M A Fahim, the initiative aimed to identify diabetes, hypertension and anemia at an early stage while promoting awareness on lifestyle modifications.

The health team performed anthropometric measurements, BMI evaluation, waist circumference assessment, blood pressure recording and random blood sugar testing using glucometers. Community members were engaged in interactive talks on healthy eating, regular exercise, reducing sugar intake, tobacco cessation and recognising early symptoms of diabetes. Practical demonstrations and simple behaviour-change tips ensured the information was accessible and relevant to village households.

Several individuals with undiagnosed high blood sugar, elevated BP and anemia were detected and referred to KBN Teaching & General Hospital for further evaluation. Community health workers were briefed to assist in follow-up, ensuring continuity of care.

The outreach received strong participation and reinforced the need for ongoing screenings in rural populations. The programme reflects KBN University’s and Kamal Educational Society’s commitment to preventive health, community service and accessible medical support for underserved communities.
