The Department of Community Medicine, FOMS, KBN University, organized an impactful National Oral Health Month Awareness Program on 30th September 2025 at the Anganwadi Centre, Qamar Colony. The initiative aimed to educate children and caregivers about the importance of oral hygiene and hand hygiene, emphasizing the prevention of common diseases such as dental caries, diarrhoea, and respiratory infections.

The program was inaugurated by Aliza Fatima, a respected area resident who sponsored dental kits for the Anganwadi children. In her address, she applauded the efforts of KBN University in promoting health awareness and stressed the significance of inculcating healthy habits in children from a young age.

Interns of the Department of Community Medicine conducted interactive sessions demonstrating correct tooth brushing techniques using a denture and brush, supplemented with an educational cartoon video explaining the consequences of poor oral hygiene. The subsequent session on hand hygiene focused on the importance of washing hands properly, the diseases transmitted through contaminated hands, and step-by-step demonstrations for effective handwashing.

Alongside educational sessions, children underwent dental check-ups, general health assessments, and nutritional evaluations conducted by faculty and interns. Dental kits, comprising child-friendly toothbrushes, toothpaste, instruction leaflets, and a drawing book with color pencils, were distributed to all participating children, encouraging learning through play.

The program concluded with the felicitation of Anganwadi workers and Aliza Fatima for their invaluable support, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. M A Fahim, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine. The event successfully created awareness about essential hygiene practices and inspired caregivers and children alike to adopt lifelong healthy habits.

This initiative reinforced KBNU’s commitment to community welfare and preventive healthcare.
