Invited Talk on the Importance of NET and SET Examinations

 An invited talk on the “Importance of NET and SET Examinations” was organized by the Department of Sociology, Khaja Bandanawaz University, on 25th February 2026 at 10:30 a.m. The programme was conducted with the objective of guiding postgraduate students and research scholars about the significance of qualifying NET and SET examinations for academic and research careers.

 

The session began with a warm welcome addressed by Dr. N. Atungbou, Coordinator & Head (I/C) Department of Sociology, emphasizing the growing importance of eligibility examinations in securing teaching positions in colleges and universities.

 

The resource person for the programme was Dr. Maitradevi Shivaraya, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, MSI Degree College. She was formally introduced by Dr. Sameena Sindagikar, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, who highlighted Dr. Maitradevi’s academic achievements, research contributions, and dedication to mentoring students. The introduction reflected Dr Maitradevi's rich experience in teaching, research, and commitment to empowering students through academic guidance. In her keynote address, Dr. Maitradevi delivered a comprehensive and motivating lecture on the importance, structure, and preparation strategies for NET and SET examinations. She clearly explained the examination pattern, including Paper I (Teaching and Research Aptitude) and Paper II (Subject-Specific Paper), and provided detailed guidance on syllabus planning, time management, and effective study techniques. She emphasized the importance of conceptual clarity, consistent practice, solving previous years’ question papers, and repeated revision.

 

To make the session more interactive and inspiring, Dr. Maitradevi presented practical preparation strategies supported by live examples. A special highlight of the programme was the interaction with Ms. Mahe Jabeen, who successfully cleared both NET and SET examinations. She was invited to share her preparation journey and personal experiences. Ms. Mahe Jabeen spoke about her study schedule, the challenges she faced, how she overcame examination stress, and the importance of perseverance and self-confidence. Her experience motivated students to approach the examinations with determination and discipline.

Dr. Maitradevi also clarified common doubts regarding eligibility criteria, minimum qualifying marks, reference materials, and online resources. She encouraged students to cultivate research aptitude and analytical thinking skills from the postgraduate level itself. The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating and seeking guidance on preparation strategies.

 

The programme was smoothly anchored by Ms. Sumaiya, Research Scholar, Department of Sociology, who ensured effective coordination and engagement throughout the session.

 

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Azmat Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology. He encouraged students to prepare strategically and take advantage of such guidance programmes to enhance their academic prospects. He expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. Maitradevi Shivaraya for her enlightening talk, to Ms. Mahe Jabeen for sharing her valuable experiences, and to all faculty members and students for their active participation.

 

Overall, the invited talk was highly informative, practical, and motivational. It successfully created awareness about the importance of NET and SET examinations and inspired students to pursue academic excellence and research-oriented careers with confidence and dedication.
