The Internship Orientation Program – 2026 was organized by the Medical Education Unit, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Khaja Bandanawaz University, Kalaburagi, for the newly graduated MBBS interns. The program was conducted on Friday, 14th August 2026, from 09:00 AM to 04:30 PM at the Forensic Medicine Lecture Hall, KBN University Campus, Kalaburagi. The program was organized with the objective of orienting the interns to their roles, responsibilities and professional expectations during the compulsory internship period. The orientation focused on developing clinical competence, professional communication, patient safety, medico-legal responsibilities, documentation, infection prevention and other essential aspects of internship training.

The program commenced with a warm welcome to the newly graduated doctors, faculty members, resource persons and distinguished dignitaries. The dignitaries included Dr. Abdul Baseer, Director, IQAC & Controller of Examinations (I/c); Dr. Zama Moosvi, Dean, Academics; Dr. Guruprasad K. Y, Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences; Dr. Anup Desai, Dean, Student Welfare; Dr. Siddaling Chengty, Medical Superintendent, KBNTRGH; Dr. Sushma D. S, MEU Coordinator; Dr. Amogh Harsoor, MEU Member; and Mir Vilayat Ali, Registrar, KBN University.

The formal Inauguration Ceremony of the Internship Orientation Program – 2026 was subsequently conducted in the presence of the distinguished dignitaries.

The scientific sessions commenced by Dr. Zainab Ghazala, Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBN University highlighted the importance of rational prescribing, and appropriate prescription writing, conducted by Dr. Md. Mohsin Ahmed, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology, FOMS. The session and pharmacovigilance as essential components of safe and responsible medical practice.The next session focused on Doctor–Patient Relationship and Communication Skills. The importance of effective communication, empathy, professional behavior, active listening, informed communication and maintaining a healthy doctor–patient relationship was emphasized.

The session encouraged interns to develop effective interpersonal and professional skills essential for clinical practice. Next Session commenced With Doctor patient relationship by Dr.Amogh Harsoor MEU member, Assistant Professor, KBNU-FOMS

Following a short tea break, an important practical session on Basic Life Support Skills was conducted by Dr. Vinod Uplaonkar, Professor and Head, Department of Pediatrics and BLS-ACLS Instructor, FoMS. The session emphasized early recognition of emergencies and the timely initiation of life-saving measures. Practical demonstrations and guidance were provided to strengthen the interns' confidence in managing emergency situations.

Next academic session focused on Handling of Medico-Legal Cases (MLCs) and was conducted by Dr. Zama Moosvi, Dean Academics, KBN University. The session highlighted the importance of appropriate documentation, legal responsibilities, confidentiality and proper procedures while dealing with medico-legal cases in clinical practice.

After the lunch break, the afternoon academic sessions commenced with Case Sheet Writing and Medical Records, conducted by Dr. Marthand Kulkarni, Professor and Head, Department of Orthopedics and MEU Member, FOMS. The session emphasized accurate, complete and timely documentation as an integral component of safe patient care, continuity of care and professional practice.

The next session focused on Sample Collection, Hand Hygiene, Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAI) and Biomedical Waste Management. Dr. Siddesh Sirwar, Professor, Department of Microbiology, FOMS, provided guidance on appropriate sample collection techniques, hand hygiene practices, prevention of healthcare-associated infections and safe biomedical waste disposal. The importance of infection prevention and adherence to hospital safety protocols was reinforced.

The session on Blood Bank and Laboratory Services was conducted by Dr. Geetanjali, Associate Professor and Blood Bank Officer, Department of Pathology, FOMS. The session provided interns with an overview of laboratory services and blood bank procedures, emphasizing their importance in clinical decision-making, transfusion safety and effective patient care.

The final academic session, Internship Rostrum, was conducted by Dr. Sushma D. S, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology and Coordinator, Medical Education Unit, FOMS. The session provided detailed information regarding the internship schedule, clinical postings, responsibilities, academic requirements and important administrative expectations. The interns were guided on how to make effective use of their internship period for developing clinical knowledge, skills and professional competencies.

The program concluded with closing remarks emphasizing that internship is not merely a mandatory component of medical education but an important period of transition towards becoming responsible, compassionate and competent medical professionals. The interns were encouraged to learn from every patient, respect all members of the healthcare team, maintain accurate documentation, communicate respectfully and seek guidance whenever required.

A formal Vote of Thanks was proposed, expressing sincere gratitude to the Hon'ble Pro Vice Chancellor, university leadership, Deans, Medical Superintendent, resource faculty and members of the Medical Education Unit for their valuable support and contribution towards the successful organization of the program. Special appreciation was extended to all the resource persons for sharing their knowledge and experience, and to the interns for their enthusiastic and disciplined participation.

The Internship Orientation Program – 2026 successfully achieved its objective of preparing newly graduated doctors for the responsibilities and challenges of internship. The program provided valuable academic, clinical, professional, ethical and administrative insights and served as an important platform for the interns to begin their internship journey with greater confidence, awareness and responsibility.
