International Mother Language Day Programme

The Department of English and Hindi, Faculty of Languages, Khaja Bandanawaz University, Kalaburagi, organized a vibrant programme to celebrate International Mother Language Day on 02.03.2026. Prof. Nishat Arif Hussain, Dean, Faculty of Languages, Arts Humanities, Social Sciences and Lawwas the Convener. Dr. Athiya Sultana, Dr. Deshmukh Afshan Begum& Mr. Ramesh N were the Organizing Secretaries.
The program aimed to highlight the richness and diversity of languages and cultures across India. The event emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting mother Languages as carriers of identity, culture and heritage.
The programme was introduced by Syeda Hufza Umama, an MA student from the Department of English, who briefly explained the significance of celebrating Mother Language Day and the purpose of the event. This was followed by Qirat performed by Ammara Sadaf of Department of English.
The welcome speech was delivered by Ayesha Anjum, a student of BA IV Semester in Hindi language, who warmly welcomed the Dean of the Faculty of Languages, Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Law, Prof. Nishat Arif Hussain , faculty members and students. She highlighted the value of linguistic diversity and encouraged everyone to take pride in their mother languages.
As part of the ceremony, the Dean of the Faculty of Languages, Arts Humanities, Social Sciences and Law, Prof. Nishat Arif Hussaini, was felicitated by Dr. Athiya Sultana in recognition of her support and encouragement towards promoting language and culture within the faculty.
The programme featured a vibrant display of the languages, traditional dresses and cultural identities of various Indian states, including Karnataka, Punjab, Kashmir, Kerala,West Bengal, Odisha and Manipuri. Students enthusiastically represented these states through traditional attire and cultural expressions, creating a colourful and lively atmosphere.
Faculty members also actively participated in representing their respective mother Languages and cultures. Mr. Ramesh N represented Tamil Nadu, Dr. Sanganagouda represented Karnataka, Dr. Tajuddin represented Telangana, Dr. Atungbou represented Manipur, Dr. Bhartilaxmi represented Odisha, Dr. Atiullah represented Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the Awadhi language, Dr. Athermoizuddin represented the Deccani language, Dr. Deshmukh Afshan Begum represented Maharashtra.Their participation beautifully demonstrated India’s linguistic diversity and reinforced the message that every mother Language carries a unique cultural legacy.
In her Presidential Address, Prof. Nishat Arif Hussaini, Dean of the Faculty of Languages, ArtsHumanities, Social Sciences and Law, emphasized that a mother Language carries a sense of comfort, belonging and emotional warmth that connects people to their roots and culture. She encouraged students to cherish and preserve their native languages while embracing multilingualism.
The event also included prize distribution for the winners of various competitions organized as part of the celebration, including Speech, Debate and Rangoli competitions. The prizes were awarded to encourage students to actively engage with their languages and cultural traditions.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Maseera Batool, an MA Sociology student, who expressed gratitude to the Dean, faculty members, organizers and participants for making the event a success.
The celebration of International Mother Language Day thus became a meaningful occasion that not only honoured linguistic diversity but also strengthened cultural unity among students and faculty members. All Faculty members and students were present at the Programme.
