International Microorganisms Day 2025

The Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science at Khaja Bandanawaz University (KBNU) marked International Microorganisms Day 2025 with a vibrant and innovative event titled “Adopt a Microbe Campaign” on 17th September 2025 at the Department of Biotechnology.


The campaign aimed to raise awareness about the vital role of microorganisms in human health, industry, agriculture, and the environment, while nurturing creativity and scientific communication among students. Participants from B.Sc. and M.Sc. Biotechnology enthusiastically adopted a microbe of their choice and presented it through posters, models, fact cards, and engaging presentations. A total of 14 educational stalls were set up, drawing over a hundred visitors from various faculties.


The judging panel included Dr. Bilal Ahmed (Professor, Department of Microbiology, FOMS) and Dr. Romana Mirde (Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, FOS), who evaluated entries based on scientific content, creativity, clarity, aesthetic appeal, and communication skills. Educational stalls also featured posters on COVID-19 and other pathogenic microbes, sparking rich discussions among attendees.


The campaign culminated with the announcement of winners: First Prize – Saima Ismath & Syeda Khadeeja Qadri (Lactobacillus acidophilus), Second Prize – Neha Tabassum, Syeda Maimoona Sultana, Syeda Saima Tabassum & Iqra Maheen Hadi (Escherichia coli), and Third Prize – Ayesha Sadaf, Heena Kauser, Hermain Saher (Penicillium notatum) along with Ruqaiyya Parveen, Naila Eram, and Shaistha Banu (Bacteriophage). All participants received certificates, and student coordinators were honoured with special recognition.


Spearheaded by Dr. Geetanjali Kamble (Dean, Faculty of Science), Dr. Jahan Aara Kudsi (HoD, Biotechnology), and Dr. Neelam Mishra (Organizing Secretary) along with a dedicated faculty and student team, the event was a resounding success. It fostered enthusiasm, teamwork, and curiosity, and reaffirmed KBNU’s commitment to nurturing scientific excellence and innovation.
