As part of its continuous efforts toward community outreach and preventive healthcare, the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBN University organised a Health Awareness Talk for students residing in the KBN Girls’ Hostel on 07 December 2025. The programme aimed to empower young women with essential knowledge on health, hygiene, and lifestyle practices critical to their overall wellbeing.

The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Shahanz Shaheen, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, who underscored the role of preventive healthcare in shaping healthy individuals, especially among young women managing academic responsibilities alongside personal health.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Gazala Shireen, Associate Professor, Department of Anatomy and Girls’ Hostel Warden, who emphasized the importance of awareness and adoption of healthy practices, with particular focus on menstrual hygiene and breaking the stigma surrounding women’s health issues.

The core session was conducted by Dr. Mahjabeen, Tutor, and Dr. Soumya, Postgraduate Student, Department of Community Medicine. Their talk comprehensively covered personal hygiene and menstrual health management, balanced nutrition with emphasis on iron and calcium intake, mental health awareness, stress management, and the importance of preventive measures such as regular health check-ups, Hepatitis-B and HPV vaccinations, cervical cancer screening, and self-breast examination for early detection.

An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which students actively engaged with the speakers, sharing concerns related to menstrual irregularities, dietary habits, sleep patterns, and academic stress. The faculty addressed these queries with practical, evidence-based guidance, creating an open and supportive environment for discussion.

The Health Awareness Talk successfully achieved its objectives by fostering awareness, confidence, and informed decision-making among the students. The Department of Community Medicine reaffirmed its commitment to organising similar initiatives in the future, reinforcing KBN University’s mission of promoting holistic health, preventive care, and student wellbeing.
