On 12th December 2025 with the objective of promoting health awareness and fostering responsible lifestyle habits among adolescents, the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBN University organized a comprehensive Health Awareness Programme at Sayyid Akbar Husayni PU College. The programme was conducted at the request of the college administration and was thoughtfully designed to address gender-specific health concerns through separate sessions for boys and girls.
The session for boys focused on Hazards of Tobacco Use and was conducted by Dr. Sanju (Postgraduate) and Dr. Sanket (Intern). The speakers discussed the various forms of tobacco products, their targeted marketing toward young individuals, and the serious short- and long-term consequences, including addiction, cancers, respiratory illnesses, and cardiovascular diseases. The session also addressed psychological and social impacts, common myths surrounding occasional tobacco use, strategies to resist peer pressure, and awareness of government laws and penalties related to underage tobacco consumption. The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to reflect on their choices and commit to healthier alternatives.
The session for girls, led by Dr. Soumya (Postgraduate) and Dr. Summaiya (Intern), focused on Women’s Health Issues. Key areas included physical and emotional changes during adolescence, menstrual health and hygiene, nutrition and iron intake for anemia prevention, mental health awareness, body positivity, and the importance of early identification of health concerns. The open discussion helped students clarify doubts, reduce stigma, and gain confidence in managing their health responsibly.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Shahnaz Shaheen, Professor & In-charge HOD, and Dr. M. A. Fahim, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine.
