On April 25, 2025, students from the Faculty of Law, Khaja Bandanawaz University, undertook an educational visit to the District Consumer Redressal Forum in Kalaburagi. This initiative, part of the academic curriculum, aimed to provide practical insights into consumer dispute resolution and strengthen students' understanding of the Consumer Protection Act and its implementation in real-world scenarios.

Objectives of the Visit:

The visit was designed with the following goals:

  • To expose students to the working of Consumer Redressal Commissions and familiarize them with procedural aspects.

  • To enable observation of actual hearings involving consumer disputes.

  • To provide a platform for interacting with legal professionals and understanding courtroom dynamics.

  • To deepen understanding of legal remedies, consumer rights, and the judicial process surrounding consumer grievances.

Activities Conducted:

  1. Observation of Live Hearings: Students witnessed real-time court proceedings involving consumer complaints. This gave them exposure to how grievances are articulated and defended, enhancing their comprehension of courtroom protocols and argumentation strategies.

  2. Understanding Judicial Roles: Participants observed the role of the presiding officer in managing proceedings, maintaining decorum, and delivering judgments based on legal principles and evidence.

  3. Interaction with Legal Professionals and Court Officials: Following the hearings, students engaged with court personnel and legal experts. These professionals elaborated on filing procedures, required documentation, case timelines, and current challenges in consumer litigation, especially in areas like banking, finance, and insurance.

  4. Q&A Session: An interactive session allowed students to ask questions about the structure, functioning, and jurisdiction of the Commission. The responses helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

Key Outcomes of the Visit:

  • Practical Exposure:

Students gained firsthand insight into consumer rights enforcement, observing cases involving defective goods, service deficiencies, and fraud.

  • Understanding Procedures:

The visit clarified the procedural steps for filing complaints and conducting litigation, offering a practical understanding often absent from textbooks.

  • Diverse Case Studies:

Exposure to a range of case types—including issues in e-commerce, banking, and insurance—highlighted the breadth of consumer law applications.

  • Legal Insights:

Interactions with seasoned professionals provided perspectives on evolving legal trends and reinforced the importance of legal awareness in consumer protection.

Conclusion: The educational visit to the District Consumer Redressal Forum was a highly enriching experience. It successfully bridged academic learning with practical exposure, equipping law students with valuable skills and insights into consumer justice mechanisms.
