The Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBN University, organised a Drug Awareness Program on 26th June 2025 at the Anatomy Lecture Hall, Pre-Clinical Block. Designed for MBBS Phase I students, the session aimed to address the growing concern of substance abuse among youth and to inspire students to lead with awareness, courage, and accountability.
The event was graced by Ms. Kanika Sikriwal, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Kalaburagi, and Mr. Chandra Shekar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kalaburagi. The programme began with a warm welcome by Dr. Saba Nazneen Khan, Professor, Department of Biochemistry. In her address, Ms. Kanika Sikriwal delivered a message that deeply resonated with the young audience. Speaking with clarity and empathy, she urged students to stay vigilant and to make informed choices. “Say no to drugs, say yes to life,” she said, underlining how easily addiction can take hold and disrupt lives, families, and futures. She spoke about the importance of breaking the silence around drug use, reporting concerns without hesitation, and building a support system rooted in trust and responsibility. She reassured the students that the police department is not only a protector but also a partner in their safety and wellbeing.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Saba Nazneen Khan. A total of 180 participants, including 150 students and 30 faculty members, attended the session. The programme left behind a lasting impression, reinforcing the idea that creating a drug-free campus begins with awareness, empathy, and the courage to speak up. Through this initiative, KBNU reaffirmed its commitment to shaping future healthcare professionals who not only excel in knowledge but also stand as responsible, socially conscious individuals.
