Demystifying Allergic Rhinitis: A Comprehensive Workshop by Dept. of ENT

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Faculty of Medical Sciences, Khaja Bandanawaz University, successfully organized a one-day workshop titled “Demystifying Allergic Rhinitis: A Comprehensive Workshop” on 19th July 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the New Lecture Hall, 3rd Floor, Khaja Bandanawaz Teaching and General Hospital (KBNTGH), Kalaburagi. The workshop was convened by Dr. Rajeev Reddy, Professor and Head, Department of ENT, under the guidance of the Organising Secretary, Dr. Rajneesh, Professor, Department of ENT. The programme was organized with the objective of updating clinicians, postgraduate students, and delegates on the recent advances in the diagnosis and management of allergic rhinitis through expert lectures, live demonstrations, and interactive hands-on sessions.

The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran (Qirat) followed by the Invocation Song, setting a solemn and auspicious tone for the workshop. The delegates were warmly welcomed by Dr. Sameera, who delivered the welcome address and greeted the dignitaries, guest speakers, faculty members, and participants.

The inaugural ceremony was marked by the ceremonial watering of the plant, symbolizing growth, prosperity, and enlightenment, followed by the felicitation of the dignitaries and distinguished resource persons. Dr. Guruprasad K. Y., Dean, and Dr. Siddaling Chengty, Medical Superintendent, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of organizing such academic programmes to promote continued professional development and enhance knowledge in the field of allergy and immunology. They appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and expressed their gratitude to the distinguished dignitaries, resource faculty, delegates, and organizers for making the workshop a meaningful academic event.

The keynote address on “Allergic Rhinitis” was delivered by the distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Gayatri S. Pandit, who highlighted the current concepts, clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, and evidence-based management of allergic rhinitis.

Following the inaugural session, the delegates assembled for a short tea break before the commencement of the scientific sessions.

The post-tea scientific session began with an enlightening lecture on “Allergy Beyond Nose” by Dr. Shruti Manjunath, who elaborated on the systemic manifestations of allergic diseases and their multidisciplinary approach to management. This was followed by a session on “Pharmacotherapeutics in Allergic Rhinitis” delivered by the local faculty, Dr. Shradha Pawar, who discussed the latest pharmacological strategies and guideline-based treatment modalities.

The next scientific session, “Introduction to Aeroallergens and Skin Prick Allergy Tests,” was presented by Dr. Shruti Manjunath, who explained the common aeroallergens, principles of allergy testing, and the significance of skin prick testing in clinical practice. Subsequently, Dr. Gayatri S. Pandit delivered an informative lecture on “Targeted Treatments in Allergy: Immunotherapy and Biologicals,” highlighting recent advances in allergen immunotherapy and biologic therapies for allergic disorders.

The morning scientific sessions concluded with a lunch break.

The post-lunch session featured a live demonstration on In-vitro Tests in Allergy, jointly conducted by Dr. Gayatri S. Pandit and Dr. Shruti Manjunath, wherein the delegates were introduced to various laboratory investigations used in allergy diagnosis. This was followed by a demonstration of the Skin Prick Test by the resource faculty. Registered delegates actively participated in the hands-on training session under the expert guidance and supervision of the resource persons, providing them with practical exposure to the procedure.

An interactive Question-and-Answer Session was conducted at the conclusion of the scientific programme, during which the participants clarified their doubts and engaged in fruitful discussions with the resource faculty.

The programme concluded with the felicitation of the distinguished resource persons in recognition of their valuable academic contributions. Finally, Dr. Bhavana proposed the vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to the Dean, Medical Superintendent, guest speakers, resource faculty, delegates, organizing committee, faculty members, and all those who contributed towards the successful conduct of the workshop.
