CME on Current Trends In Hearing Assessment And Habilitation - A Perspective on Cochlear Implantation

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) at the Faculty of Medical Sciences organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on "Current Trends in Hearing Assessment and Habilitation: A Perspective on Cochlear Implantation" on January 4, 2025. The event was held at the New Lecture Hall, 3rd floor, Khaja Bandanawaz National Hospital and Research Centre (KBNTGH).

 

The program commenced with the recitation of the Quran and an invocation song, setting a solemn tone for the proceedings. Dr. Vasanthi Anand, a renowned Senior Cochlear Implant Surgeon and Director of Manasa Cochlear Implant Centre, Bangalore, delivered the keynote address on cochlear implantation. The inauguration ceremony followed, which included the watering of a plant and the felicitation of dignitaries and guest speakers.

 

The program featured a series of presentations, including a talk on "Radiological Pearls in Cochlear Implantation" by Dr. Roopa K Tandur and a discussion on "Auditory Assessment and Auditory Habilitation" by Ms. Ashwini Nagaraj, an audiologist from Bangalore. A cadaveric dissection and placement of a dummy cochlear implant on a temporal bone were also demonstrated by Dr. Vasanthi Anand, providing a hands-on learning experience for the attendees.

 

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, group discussion, and the distribution of mementos to the guest speakers. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sameera, bringing to a close a day of enriching discussions and learning on the current trends in hearing assessment and habilitation, with a focus on cochlear implantation. The event was attended by distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Guruprasad K Y, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, and Dr. Abdul Basheer, Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Deputy Controller of Examinations, Khaja Bandanawaz University.
