CME: Inside the Marrow – Bridging Haematopoiesis & Haematopathology

The Department of Pathology & Physiology, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Khaja Bandanawaz University, Kalaburagi, organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme entitled “INSIDE THE MARROW: Bridging Haematopoiesis and Haematopathology” on Saturday, 29th August 2026, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Anatomy Lecture Hall, KBN University Campus, Kalaburagi. The academic programme was awarded 2 KMC Credit Points.


The CME was organised with the blessings of Hazrath Dr. Syed Shah Khusro Hussaini (Rh), Founder Chancellor, Khaja Bandanawaz University. The programme was conducted under the esteemed patronage of His Holiness Dr. Syed Muhammad Ali al-Hussaini Saheb, Sajjada Nashin, Dargah Hazrath Khaja Bandanawaz (Rh), His Excellency the Chancellor, Khaja Bandanawaz University and Hon’ble President, Khaja Education Society. The programme further received the guidance of Janab Dr. Syed Mustafa al-Hussaini Sahab, Hon’ble Director-Campus, Khaja Bandanawaz University, Kalaburagi. The event was honoured by the presence of Prof.Syed Ashfaq Ahmed, Hon’ble Pro Vice Chancellor, as the Chief Guest.


The CME was convened by Dr. Guruprasad K Y (Dean, FOMS), Dr. Siddaling Chengty (Medical Superintendent, KBNTH & KGBN) and Dr. Pratima Sambrani (Professor Emeritus, Department of Pathology). The Organizing Chairpersons were Dr. Md. Ibrahim Siddiqui (Professor & HOD, Department of Pathology) and Dr. Imtiyaz Ali (Professor & HOD, Department of Physiology). The Organizing Secretaries were Dr. Abida Farheen, Dr. Mohd Shahnawaz Ahmed and Dr. Tuba Noorin.


SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS

The CME began with registration and breakfast, followed by academically enriching scientific sessions. Dr. Raghavendra Sherikar delivered “Normal Bone Marrow: From Architecture to Haematopoietic Function.” Lt Col (Dr) Barun Kumar Chakraborty delivered “Bone Marrow Aspiration & Trephine Biopsy: Indications, Technique & Ancillary Diagnostics.” Dr. Kalpana Kulkarni delivered “Morphological Approach to Bone Marrow Disorders.” Col. (Dr.) S. Venkatesan delivered “Decoding Myeloproliferative Neoplasms as per WHO-HAEM 5: Morphology & Diagnostic Criteria.” Dr. Bageshri Gogate delivered “Basics of Flow Cytometry: Principles, Instrumentation, Gating Strategy & Clinical Applications.” An interactive quiz was moderated by Dr. Kalpana Kulkarni, Dr. Hamed Altaf and Dr. Shreya. The programme concluded with the Valedictory Function and High Tea.


ORGANISING MEMBERS

The CME was supported by Dr. Saher Ansari, Dr. Mandakini B. Tengli, Dr. Zeenath Begum, Dr. Heena Kauser, Dr. Geetanjali, Dr. Afra Taqdees, Dr. Tahniyat Ara, Dr. Sumaiyya Firdous, Dr. Safura Batul, Dr. Sudharani and Dr. Sidrah Muntaha. The brochure also acknowledges Dr. Premika, Dr. Greeshma, Dr. Khuteja Mahek, Dr. Vishwajeet D, Dr. Vikash Singh, Dr. Megha, Dr. Basera Jabeen, Dr. Rayeesa Rehmat Baig, Dr. Mohammed Abdul Muqeeth, Dr. Ayesha Farheen and Dr. Sumaiyya Shireen as part of the organising team.


ACADEMIC SIGNIFICANCE

The CME successfully brought together important concepts from haematopoiesis, bone marrow morphology, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, myeloproliferative neoplasms and flow cytometry. The programme provided participants an opportunity to learn from experienced specialists and strengthened understanding of the diagnostic approach to haematological disorders. The combination of lectures, practical diagnostic perspectives. Poster competition was also held and prizes were distributedto the winners, and it was judged by Dr. N.N Angarkar and Deepak Yelsangikar. An  interactive quiz made the programme academically engaging and beneficial.


Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Abida Farheen. The organizing committee expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Hazrath Dr. Syed Shah Khusro Hussaini (Rh), His Holiness Dr. Syed Muhammad Ali al-Hussaini Saheb and Janab Dr. Syed Mustafa al-Hussaini Sahab for their blessings, patronage and guidance. The committee also conveys its sincere appreciation to Prof. Syed Ashfaq Ahmed, Mir Vilayat Ali, Dr. Zama Moosvi and Dr. Abdul Baseer for gracing the occasion and extending their valuable support. Special thanks are extended to all the speakers—Dr. Raghavendra Sherikar, Lt Col (Dr) Barun Kumar Chakraborty, Dr. Kalpana Kulkarni, Col. (Dr.) S. Venkatesan and Dr. Bageshri Gogate—for sharing their expertise. The organising committee also appreciates all Conveners, Organizing Chairpersons, Organizing Secretaries, Organizing Members, faculty members, students, participants and support staff whose collective efforts contributed to the successful conduct of the CME. The programme concluded on a highly positive and academically enriching note.
