The Basic Life Support(BLS) Provider Course organised by the Skill Lab, Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBN University which is now an Indian Academy of Pediatrics Accreditated CPR
Training Centre.
The Basic Life Support(BLS) Provider Course trains participants in
Identification of an arrest situation
To give High-quality Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for adults, children and infants
To deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED
Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
30 Post Graduate Students and 10 teaching faculty from Faculty of Medical Sciences, participated in the BLS Provider Course on 13th May 2025 at Skill Lab, Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBN University. .
The Basic life support provider course was started with an introduction about BLS workshop, its importance by Dr Sushma D S, Skill lab Coordinator and Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, which was followed by welcome address delivered by Dr. Vinod Uplaonkar, Coordinator ALS BLS and Professor, Department of Pediatrics and invited the dignitaries and inaugurated the workshop with the formal inauguration of IAP Accreditation Centre Certificate by the dignitaries. Dr. Siddesh Sirwar, Dean(i/c) Faculty of Medical Sciences, highlighted the importance and need for BLS and ACLS Certification for the Healthcare Professionals. Dr Md Abdul Baseer, Director IQAC and Controller of Examinations(i/c) stressed on conducting BLS training for paramedical students and other faculty of KBN University.
Dr. Srinivas Bacha, Senior Pediatrician and ALS BLS Course Director gave the overview of the BLS provider Course and briefed about the science behind CPR with video demonstration of CPR. Dr. Apoorva, BLS Instructor, gave description about the recent changes in CPR and its purpose. Dr Siddaling Chengty, Medical Superintendant, KBNTGH and BLS Instructor, taught everyone about the AED use and adjustments done in Infants, Children and in Adults. Dr. Charanraj Hunnalli, Professor and Head, Department of Pediatrics and BLS Instructor briefed the participants about the Team dynamics.
The participants were divided into 2 groups of Red and Yellow with 20 participants each. Two parallel BLS skill training sessions were conducted. Group Red was led by Dr Srinivas Bacha and Dr. Vinod Uplaonkar with observer Dr Raju Mali and Dr Arun Tallur, taught participants about Adult and Child CPR, AED use in Adult and Child CPR Manikins. Group Yellow was led by Dr. Apoorva and Dr. Charanraj Hunnalli with observers Dr. Vijay Shegji and Dr. Venugopal Mantri, taught Infant CPR, AED use and Choking skill stations. The groups were interchanged with completion of the modules.
This was followed by evaluation of all the participants by written test and skill assessment. Lastly certificates were distributed to the participants who were passed in both written and skill assessment and remediation was done.
