The Department of Mathematics in collaboration with the Department of Food & Nutrition, conducted various competitions on 25th and 26th April 2024 to celebrate World Earth Day”. World Earth Day is an annual event held on April 22nd around the World to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices. More than 70 students from different faculties of Khaja Bandanawaz University have actively participated in the competitions.
EARTH DAY 2024 THEME: PLANET vs. PLASTICS
The primary objective of World Earth Day is to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices. It serves as a platform to educate and engage students in taking action to protect the planet and its ecosystems. Some of the key objectives of World Earth Day include:
1. Environmental Education: World Earth Day aims to educate students about the importance of environmental conservation, climate change, biodiversity, and other pressing environmental issues. It provides an opportunity to learn about the impact of human activities on the planet and the steps that can be taken to mitigate this impact. It calls for collective action to address environmental challenges, such as pollution, deforestation, climate change, and plastic pollution.
2. Promoting Sustainable Practices: World Earth Day encourages students to adopt environmentally friendly habits, such as recycling, conserving energy and water, reducing waste, and supporting renewable energy sources.
On Day one, Various Competitions like Painting Competition, Best out of Waste, Essay Competition and Photography contest were conducted among the students of Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Arts, Languages, Social Sciences & Humanities, Khaja Bandanawaz University.
The Painting Competition visually expressed the thoughts of participants on environmental issues, showcasing their talent and artistic abilities. The Best of 2 Participants were adjudged by Mr. Shaikh Ahsanuddin, M.F.A and Proprietor, Ahsan Design Studio and International Islamic Calligrapher, Kalaburgi
The Essay Writing competition provided with the opportunity to articulate the thoughts and knowledge about environmental conservation.Essay Competition was adjudged by Dr. Syed Abrar, Asst. Professor, Dept of Botany, KBNU and Mr. Shujauddin Safi, Asst. Professor, Dept of English, KBNU.
In the Photography Contest, participants captured the beauty of nature and the urgency to preserve it. Best of 2 participants was adjudged by Dr. Jawed Akhter, Asst. Professor, Dept of Mass Communication & Journalism, KBNU.
The Best out of Waste Competition highlighted participants creativity and resourcefulness. Judge for the Best out of Waste competition was Dr. Asma Parveen, Asst. Professor, Dept of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Science & Technology, KBNU.
On Second Day, a fireless cooking competition was conducted.Itaims to reduce energy consumption, minimize carbon emissions, and promote sustainable living practices.Dr.Saba Nazneen Khan, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medical Science, Khaja Bandanawaz University judged the Best 2 participants in this competition.
In the later part of the day, Official event was conducted in the Anatomy Lecture hall no.1,Faculty of Medical Science, KBNU where Dr. Nagbasavanna Gurogol, Dean, Faculty of Science & Technology, SharnBasva University was the Chief Guest and Prof.Nishat Arif Hussaini, Dean , Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Social Science /Language /Education/Law was the President of the event. All the winners & Runner ups of the competitions received the prizes during the event.
