Regional Seminar on Career & Job Prospects in Life Sciences


In accordance with the permission letter received from the IQAC director DR. M.A. Baseer dated 10/11/2023 with ref no. KBNU/Acad/Wor/Conf/F-26/1762. The department of Zoology has organized a regional seminar on “Career and job prospects in life sciences” for intermediate, undergraduate, and post- graduate students. Nearly 200 students from various colleges, universities, and institutes from Kalyana- Karnataka region have participated via offline and online mode in the event. The details of the meeting are as follows:

Organizing Secretory: Dr. Heena Mubeen, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, BNU.

Organizing team: M.Sc. III semester students, Department of Zoology, KBNU.

10:15am- 10:45am: Inaugural Session

Inauguration Session


The event began with the word of God (Invocation) by Dr. Shabaz Arshad, Department of Urdu, KBNU. It was followed by welcoming the speakers, faculty members and the participants to the event by Ms. Javeriya Maheen, M.Sc. III Semester, Department of Zoology, KBNU Felicitation to all the speakers was done by the faculty members. As a symbol of desire towards preserving and protecting the environment, the act of watering a tree sapling was performed by the speakers, co-convenor, organizing secretory and a student. The introduction of the event was given by Dr. Shaikh Fahemeeda, Co-convenor. Dr. Heena Mubeen, the organizing secretary, addressed the gathering and talked about the importance of choosing a right career for future.


The event was hosted by Ms. Faiza Naaz and Mrs. Madiha Afra, M.Sc. III Sem, Dept. of Zoology, Khaja Bandanawaz University


Lecture I: 11:00am- 12:00pm: Prof. Shankerappa S. Hatti, SB lake management committee member, KKRDB, Kalaburagi.


Speaker Introduction was given by Ms. Ayesha Siddiqa M.Sc. III Sem, Dept. of Zoology, Khaja Bandanawaz University.


Talk description:

In his lecture, he highlighted the various hurdles faced by the students while choosing their career his quoted examples were realistic, and achievements made by the students who were weak in their studies and turned out to be the great achievers in their lives and later he guided us to different field and opportunities in Zoology.


Lecture II: 12:00pm- 1:00pm: Dr. Sharanbasappa Yeri, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Zonal Agricultural Research Station Kalaburagi.


Speaker Introduction was given by Ms. Syeda Khatija M.Sc. III Sem, Dept. of Zoology, Khaja Bandanawaz University.


Talk description:

The speaker mainly focused on drug designing and development as a current trend and an emerging field in biotechnology. He also stated that how biotechnology will aid in saving mankind to meet the high demands of the population. He also highlighted the various sectors of biotechnology like different fields in biotechnology, various training available in biotechnology, skills needed in biotechnology and innovation, job markets biotechnology and diverse career opportunities for undergraduates and postgraduates and various fellowships and projects available.


Lecture III: 2:15pm- 3:15pm: Dr. Raja Samarsen Modi, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Botany, GFGC, Noubad, Bidar.


Speaker Introduction was given by Ms. Ayesha Jabeen M.Sc. III Sem, Dept. of Zoology, Khaja Bandanawaz University.


Talk description:

The speaker mentioned the various sectors in botany develop as a career option like teaching, forest department, research, different GOs and NGOs for offering job for botany graduates. Research institutes, as a curator, developing herbarium, can become entrepreneur be establishing botanical garden, micro slide preparation, mushroom cultivation and materials apply for laboratories. He also highlighted various scholarships available for masters, like INSPIRE Indira Gandhi scholarship for single child, HDFC educational crisis scholarship, PG merit scholarship for rank holders national merit scholarship, Sir CV Raman scholarship, KSTA for PG Kalyana Karnataka region, Sitaram Jindal foundation, APJ Abdul kalam summer fellowship, training for IAS in Bangalore, DBT JRF. Lastly, he concluded by saying that M.Sc. botany is rewarding career-oriented subject. He also mentioned some of the useful links for the students.


Lecture IV: 3:15pm- 4:15 pm: Dr. Jawed Akthar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, Khaja Bandanawaz University, Kalaburagi Kalaburagi


Speaker Introduction was given by Ms. Gazala Taskeen, M.Sc. III Sem, Dept. of Zoology, Khaja Bandanawaz University.


Talk description:

The speaker addressed the role of media having scientific background. He highlighted several issues related to media like conspiracy theory, debunking misinformation and how social media platform is used to progress as well as to destroy or defame anybody. He mentioned various career opportunities like communicating service, print media and content creator, television media and radio.


Valedictory Session

The session began with the hosts welcoming the gathering. The function was presided by Prof. Nishat Arif Hussaini, Convenor and Dean faculty of Sciences, KBNU. Token of appreciation was presented to all the speakers by the president. A detailed report of the seminar was given by Dr. Heena Mubeen, organizing secretary. Opinion about the event was shared by Ms. Ahmedi and Mr. Neelkant Swamy from the audiences. Presidential remark was given by Prof. Nishat Arif Hussaini, Convenor and Dean faculty of Sciences, KBNU. Token of good will gesture to the media team, technical staff and supporting team was given by the president. The function was concluded by vote of thanks by Mrs. Syeda Hajra Anam, M.Sc. III sem, Dept. of Zoology, KBNU followed by group photo of the organizing team and the dignitaries.
