Structural Engineering

Course Duration : 2 Years     [ Intake:  18 ]
Programme Overview

Structural engineering is a branch of civil engineering which deals with the analysis and design of structures that support or resist loads. Structural engineers are most commonly involved in the design of buildings. The complexity of modern structures often requires a great deal of creativity from the engineer in order to ensure the structures support and resist the loads. The role of a structural engineer demands a significant understanding of both static and dynamic loading and the structures that are available to resist them. Presently, structural engineers need to combine traditional structural engineering expertise with an understanding of a wide range of issues related to design of zero carbon buildings and ensure pollution free environment.

  • KHAJA BANDANAWAZ UNIVERSITY offers M.Tech in Structural Engineering with an intake of 18 students at present, with highly qualified and dedicated senior staff members and highly sophisticated laboratories and well equipped departmental library.

  • This postgraduate programme is introduced by KBNU to create motivated, innovative, creative and thinking graduates to fill the roles of Structural Designers who can conceptualize, design, analyze and develop Engineering Structures to meet the modern day requirements.

  • Both public and private sectors across the globe are investing significantly in high speed railways, metro rail, steel bridges, multi-story apartments, shopping malls, aircrafts, power sector, off shore structures and many such infrastructure projects necessitating the need for structural design engineers.

  • In this context, KBNU would like to add to the growing human resources needs of infrastructure sector as structural designers through its M.Tech. in Structural Engineering.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs):

The aim of the programme is to produce postgraduates with advanced knowledge and of contemporary structural engineering.

The Programme Educational Objectives are to prepare the students:

  • To become structural design engineers to design contemporary civil engineering structures.

  • To act as administrators in public, private and government organisations or entrepreneurs with further training and education.

  • To pursue doctoral research degree to work in colleges, universities as professors or as scientists in research and atomic centers.

Programme Outcomes (POs):

On successful completion of the Program the students shall be able to:

  • Identify, formulate, and solve Civil Engineering problems in accordance with the relevant standard codes of practice.

  • Understand the role of Structural Engineers and ethical responsibility.

  • Perform on the basis of broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering Solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.

  • Incorporate specific contemporary issues into the identification, formulation, and solution of specific civil engineering problems.

  • Use the techniques, skills, and modern structural engineering tools necessary for engineering practice

Career Opportunities

Students completing this program will have opportunities within the country as well as abroad to work and execute structural design projects of complex structures such as shells, folded plates, tall structures etc. They also have prospects of becoming entrepreneurs in structural consultancy. The field also has ample opportunities for advanced research as the students pursue preliminary research as a part of master’s degree program

Earlier KBN College of Engineering affiliated to VTU BELAGAVI was offering the same discipline from the past 22 years with a intake of 18 students. The details of which are given below:
